Waukesha notches 3-1 win over Arrowhead

TOWN OF MERTON — Chalk up another Classic 8 Conference championship for the Waukesha boys hockey team. The No. 7-ranked Wings took care of business Tuesday night.

Playing the final game of the 2017-18 league season, Waukesha went into the Mullett Ice Center at Arrowhead and delivered a strong performance, downing the Warhawks by a decisive 3-1 margin.

But don’t get fooled by the final score, the Wings dominated the game from the start and led 3-0 before Arrowhead finally scored with just 2:04 remaining in the game.

Going into the game, the pressure was on Waukesha. It needed a victory to win the outright championship or a draw to tie University School for the crown. A loss would have dropped them to second place. But there was little doubt as to who was the better team on this night.

The Wings controlled the play from the start, outshooting the Warhawks by a 13-2 margin in the first period. Unfortunately for the visitors, some solid defensive play by Arrowhead kept the game scoreless.
