Four players score at least four points in 8-1 win

Green Bay--After ending the regular season on a strong note picking up a pair of wins, the Stars looked to begin their post season journey as the Eastern Shores Conference tournament got underway Thursday. Fox Cities earned the No. 3 seed for the tournament as they took on No. 2 seed Green Bay Ice Bears in Appleton with a spot in the conference title on the line.

In their previous meeting this season, both teams experienced many peaks and valleys as they played to a 3-3 draw. The second time around, was a much different story as the Stars experienced only peaks propelling them to the dominating 8-1 victory punching their ticket to the conference title game.

The first period got off to a slow start, as both teams took a while to figure things out. Despite that, it was the Stars dominating on the state sheet outshooting the Ice Bears 24-4 in that period. However, it was the Ice Bears striking first as they grabbed the 1-0 lead six minutes into action. With that score still intact, it was the Stars striking late in the period as Madelynn Jablonski and Alaina Schauf picked up two goals late giving the Stars the lead for good 2-1 after the first period.

It was in the second period when the Stars completely took the game over getting 15 more shots on net. Less than a minute into the period, the Stars added to their lead when Victoria Nelson scored off the Lauryn Hull assist to make things 3-1. The scoring continued as Schauf added two more goals in a two-minute stretch for the hat-trick as the Fox Cities lead suddenly grew to 5-1.

After that quick onslaught to begin the second period, the Ice Bears began to settle in as they began to toughen up on defense. Offensively, Green Bay got a few more shots on goal, but it was Hattie Berndt standing tall sending them all away. For the second straight period, it was the Stars finishing out the period strong as Hull and Schauf picked up two goals within seven seconds sending the game to the final period leading 7-1.

With the game seemingly in hand and only waiting for time to run out, Fox Cities continued to play their game, but let up a lot on the offensive end. The Stars only fired two shots on goal in the final period of play, but one of those shots found the back of the net. It was in the seventh minute when the scoring came to a close as Maddy Meyer picked up the eighth and final goal of the evening sending Fox Cities to the title game 8-1.
