Offense comes to life as Lady Stars down Glaciers

Fox Cities gets 7-3 win in Eastern Shores play

NEENAH – After struggling to find the winning touch in the past few, the Fox Cities Lady Stars were looking to get back on track Monday night. It was an Eastern Shores Conference game as Brookfield Glaciers came into town looking to pull a massive upset in the process.

After struggling to find consistent offense in recent games, the Stars were certainly looking to change that on Monday. It quite possibly cold have been the out put they needed to kick start them to the finish line as the Fox Cities offense erupted for an impressive 7-3 conference win.

The first period brought plenty fireworks as both offenses certainly came to play. However, both teams got off to a slightly slower start than they may have anticipated. That was until the sixth minute of action when the Stars found themselves on a power play situation. Alaina Schauf controlled the puck and moved it down the ice. After finding Lauryn Hull, the puck was played to Madelynn Jablonski who put it home for the early 1-0 lead. That would be the lone goal until the later half of the period when the offenses really began to open things up.

Facing a 1-0 deficit, it was the Glaciers battling back in the 11th minute of action. With both teams at even strength Hadley Malcolmson found an open Zoe Sternberg and just like that it was a 1-1 game. Just 30 seconds later, it was the Stars responding to once again grab the lead. Hannah Helling found herself on the assist column finding Teagan Dickman for the 2-1 lead. Not to be out done, it was Brookfield battling back with just under a minute to go. With Ellen Hill leading the attack, Mikayla Pascavis finished it off to close out an exciting first period 2-2.

If the first period wasn’t enough action for hockey fans, the second period certainly upped the ante as both offenses were once again at full speed. For the second straight period it took about five minutes for either team to get going as the combination of Hull and Jablonski started an attack. With those two controlling the puck it was only a matter of time before someone got open as Victoria Nelson put the Stars in front for good at 3-2. Fox Cities was just getting warmed up.

As the midway part of the period was approaching, it was Nelson once again finding the scoring sheet. This time with both teams at even strength Nelson stole a loose puck and put it home for an unassisted goal to make things 4-2. With the period beginning to wind down it was Nelson picking up her third consecutive point this time via the assist as Hull made things 5-2.

In desperate need of some offense, it was the Glaciers finding a way to battle back late in the second period. Malcolmson showed aggressiveness pouncing on a loose puck to net an unassisted goal and making things a 5-3 game. Not even 20 seconds later, it was the Stars grabbing momentum right back as Maddie Meyer closed out the second period with a bang and put the Stars in front 6-3.

With just one period to go and a comfortable lead, it was up to Hattie Brendt to hold strong between the pipes for one last period. She did just that stopping all five shots send her way and finished the night with 12 saves on fifteen shots. Fox Cities had no trouble generating more shots as 13 shots were put up in the final period and 39 total for the game. With Fox Cities beginning to relax just a bit, they managed to find the goal one last time as Tatjana Fassbender put one home for the final score of the night to give Fox Cities a dominating 7-3 win.
