St. Croix Valley takes control in third period

It may seem like you've heard this story before. We have one team looking to prove they should be viewed as a contender, while the other is attempting to start firing on all cylinders to prepare for the playoffs. The Fusion a perennial power house in WIAA girls hockey are looking to right the ship after losing 3 of their last 5 games. The Tigers want to gain the respect and challenge for the right to represent sectional 3 at the state tournament.

The Fusion tallied the first goal of the game at 6:04 of the first period, when Anna Albrightson put it past Josie Mathison with an assist from Amber DeLong. Black River Falls took the following face-off and tied the game 18 seconds later on a goal by Khloe Spors with Ashley Overlien being credited with the assist. The Tigers picked up a 5 minute major penalty with 2:08 remaining in the period. Kaytlin Johnson intercepted a pass in Black River Falls' defensive zone and fed the puck to Khloe Spors. Spors made a dash up the middle of the ice and used a backhand shot to score a short handed goal giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The score remained until the Fusion tied the game with 10:45 remaining in the third period. Gabrielle Bresina scored the goal with Taylar Meier and Madyson Shew assisting.  Kamryn Jacobs gave the Fusion the lead at 12:19 of the third with an assist from Jordan Erickson. Albrightson closed out the scoring for the evening with 3:45 showing on the clock with Amber DeLong and Taylar Meier assisting.

The Fusion picked up a 4-2 win and will play top ranked Hudson in their next game. The hockey schedule doesn't get any easier for the Tigers as they go on the road to take on the Central Wisconsin Storm.
