Seniors lead way to conference win

The Rock County Fury honored their 8 seniors during Monday nights game with the Badger Lightning. The Fury who have a firm grip on first place in the Badger Conference used teamwork and determination to knock off the winless Badger Lightning 8-0.

A pair of seniors, Zoie Steig and Dani Heitsman each had 3 point games to put this game away early.

In just 3:32 the Fury staked themselves to a 3-0 lead on goals by Heitsman, Haley Knauf and Kaitlynn Beyer. Steig scored her first one late in the period to give the Fury a 4-0 lead at first intermission.

The Lightning, who dressed 8 skaters and a goalie, kept battling forcing Fury goalie MacKaylie Buescher to make a couple of key stops in the second period  Alyssa Knauf scored and Steig followed up with her second of the game to give Rock County a 6-0 lead thru two periods.

The third period saw the Fury play a lot of young players. Maggy Henschler did get a goal, but for the most part the young Fury players got action. The scoring was finished up with Freshman Kylie Evans scoring her first goal of the season.

Natalie Buss was plenty busy in net for the Lightning, making 23 stops. MacKaylie Buesher played over 40 minutes before giving way to Brooke Teubert. They combined for 12 saves, with Teubert stopping a breakaway late in the game.

The Fury stay in conference play and will play the Icebergs later this week, while the hardworking Lightning plays Viroqua Thursday night.
