Avalanche putting together impressive season

Aquinas co-op has won 11 of 12 games this season

Tim Franzini knew it wasn’t his team’s best performance, or even close.

He’s also coached high school hockey long enough to know that when you win games when you’re not at your best, it speaks volumes about what the future may hold.

The future, as in the second half of the season, looks pretty bright for the Aquinas co-operative boys hockey team.

The Avalanche (11-1), which have players from Aquinas, Holmen and Onalaska Luther on the roster, pushed their winning streak to eight games with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over a feisty Central/Logan team Tuesday night at Green Island Ice Arena.

The Avalanche didn’t slam the door shut when they had a 4-1 lead in the third period as a quick, fast-skating Red Ranger team (4-5-1) kept coming at them, but with Ben King in the net, they got the job done.
