Fox Cities notches 5-0 win over Greendale

WISCONSIN DELLS – After nearly a two-week layoff from action, the Stars returned to action for a holiday tournament in the Wisconsin Dells. Fox Cities looked to start a new streak after dropping their final game before the layoff 3-2.

One of the toughest parts about a long layoff is rust as you don’t have the opportunity to play at game speed. Looking to avoid that situation, the Stars aimed to take down the Ice Hawks of Greendale. Fox Cities indeed had some rust to shake off as they got off to a slow start, but the end result was golden as a strong final period pushed them to a convincing 5-0 win.

Looking to get out to a strong and fast start, the Stars offense came out firing. Fox Cities fired 17 total shots on goal, but had little to show for it as Jason Cooke was strong in the Ice Hawks goal. One of those shots managed to find the back of the goal to put the Stars in front early. Trent Christoffel led the attack into the Greendale end of the ice. He played it off to Seth Bishop who put it home for the 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. That was just the beginning for the Stars offense as their defense did a great job setting the tone.

With the offense firing tons of shots on net, it was up to the defense to be on the alert for any type of Greendale attack. They were certainly up to the task allowing just two shots on goal in the first period and 16 total for the game. With the score still 1-0 and now in the second period, the Stars offense continued to pester the goal with 12 more of their 41 total shots. Unfortunately, they still couldn’t find the back of the net beyond that first goal as the score remained 1-0 after two periods of play.

It was in the third period when the Stars offense went to work and rediscovered their magic. With Mitch Kroll stopping the few shots he saw doing his part, it was time for the offense to return the favor and do their part. It was until the later stages of the final period when the offense began to open the flood gates as Fox Cities scored four goals in the final seven minutes of action.

Just past 11th minute of action in the period it was Ben Coons leading the Stars offensive attack. Robert O’Brien was gift wrapped a flawless assist as he doubled the lead 2-0. Fox Cities was just getting started. Just over a minute later the Stars offense was at it again as Andrew Ohland put home the third goal to give Fox Cities the commanding 3-0 lead.

The lead continued to grow during the final stages of the period as Fox Cities looked to make a statement. With less than three minutes remaining on the clock, it was Ohland again this time finding himself on the assist column. Jonathan Kwasny finished off the Ohland pass putting Fox Cities up 4-0. The final goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining in the period. It was Zach Bishop taking the Zane Van Zeeland pass and finishing it home as the Stars get back to their winning ways with a dominating 5-0 victory.
