The local VFW post presented colors prior to the game as the Sauk Prairie Eagles hosted the Waunakee in a game honoring past and present military members. The Badger North Conference game started the evening with a log jam as 4 teams were tied for second place and one game behind conference leader, Beaver Dam. As the evening came to an end, there were still plenty of questions and maybe the only definitive answer is the conference title may not be decided until the very end.

The first period saw both teams moving the puck up and down the ice, but neither team was able to put the puck into the net.  Hunter Beck finished the period with 8 saves for Waunakee, while Dakota Pickhard had 6 saves for the Eagles.

The Warriors thought they scored first and broke into a celebration with just over 6 minutes remaining in the second period, but the stripes said no goal as the net came off.  Waunakee’s Nathan Watts gave the Warrior fans a reason to cheer at 12:23 of the period with an assist from Will Brezenski as the Warriors took a 1-0 lead.  Waunakee missed a couple of other opportunities as Pickhard made some amazing saves and a couple of attempts found the pipes.  Sauk Prairie trailed 1-0 at the end of two periods.

Sauk Prairie continued fighting through fatigue as the third period took a toll on their players.  The Eagles have a total of 12 players counting their goaltender and the pace was hectic. Sauk Prairie used their timeout with just over 3 minutes remaining in regulation.  This period belong to the Eagles as they continued to pressure Beck with shots and were able to complete the task of tying the game at 15:55 of the third on a goal by Dayne Leonard with an assist from Camden Desroches.

The overtime period came and went with neither team able to squeeze one past the goaltenders.  Hunter Beck finished the game with 35 saves, while Pickhard had 23 saves.

The evening concluded with Waunakee and Sauk Prairie moving into a fourth place tie with a 1-1-1 conference record and a half game behind Beaver Dam, RWD and Baraboo Portage (tied for first with 2-1-0 conference records).
