“It's amazing and a little surreal,” Berdal said after practice Monday. “It has always been a dream. I had a coach tell me in my freshman season that I had the potential to be a Division I player, but you start wondering a little, ‘Is it actually going to happen?’”
Berdal was a first-team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference and an honorable mention all-state selection last season. He had 14 goals and 19 assists for the Evergreens, and his commitment is a historical feat for the Everest boys hockey program.
"As far as I know, Everest has never had a player who went on to play Division I hockey before," Evergreens coach Dan VanSlyke said. "The kid has so much skill, and I don't think he has come into his full potential yet. I think he has a way to go still but there's no question he can play with some of the top kids in his age group and older.
