After winning its preliminary round match-up against the Minnesota Seniors, Team Wisconsin has run into two hot goalies and as a result, will play for fifth place Sunday morning at 8:30 at the Plymouth Ice Center in the CCM Minnesota National Invitational tournament.

Jared Schletty turned aside 23 shots as the Minnesota U18 Selects defeated TW 4-2 Saturday morning.

The Selects took the lead midway through the period while on the power play when Trevor Olson knocked home a rebound at the 8:07 mark, with assists to Cody Corbett and Judd Peterson.

That's how the period would end, as TW was unsuccessful on two power play chances. They held a slight 7-6 shot edge in the stanza.

Team WI came out hard in the second and capitalized on that hard work. Ryan Dau worked the puck into Brad Navin in the slot and the big Waupaca forward didn't disappoint as he buried the chance to tie the game at one at the 4:56 mark of the period. Alexander Dahl also received an assist.

Eighty-seven seconds later Simon Leahy tallied for TW from the slot, with helpers going to Karl Andersen and Evan Janssen to give TW a 2-1 lead at 6:23.

The Selects tied the game with some hard work of their own at the 13:26 mark.

Peter Kreiger used some muscle in the low slot area to grab a rebound and roof it past TW goalie Zach Woodman, with a helper going to Olson on the score.

The shot advantage went to Minnesota, 15-13 in the period.

After TW failed to score on an early power play, the Selects went back to a play they had tried many times but had relatively little success on.

MN's Neal Goff whipped a rink-wide pass to the right side where Sam Majka grabbed it and set sail. As he got down below the right dot, he slid a pass across to Sam Rothstein in the slot and the forward from Minnetonka delighted the Minnesota crowd by making it 3-2 at the 4:34 mark.

Wisconsin--who went 0 for 4 on the power play--missed out one last time with just under seven minutes left.

After Woodman came off for an extra attacker, Garrett Schmitz grabbed the puck deep in his defensive zone and lofted a 125' shot that slid into the net with 1:01 left in the game to account for the final score.

The Selects held a 9-5 shot advantage in the period.

Woodman ended with 26 saves in the game.

TW will play the loser of the North Dakota-Massachusetts game, which will start at 5:45pm Saturday.
