Ford, Watson to join Michigan Tech this fall

Wisconsin players will become Huskies

HOUGHTON, Mi. Michigan Tech head hockey coach Joe Shawhan announces nine incoming players for the 2017-18 season. The class consists of forwards Justin Misiak, Greyson Reitmeier, and Marcus Russell, defensemen Seamus Donohue, Keegan Ford, Mitch Meek, Tyler Rockwell, and Cooper Watson, and goaltender Robbie Beydoun.

Keegan Ford • Waunakee, Wis. • Madison Capitals (USHL)
Ford is a 5-foot-9, 181-pound native of Waunakee, Wisconsin. He has played in the USHL over the past five seasons (219 games), including 22 games for the Madison Capitals in 2016-17.

During the 2015-16 season, he was named a USHL Third Team All-Star after captaining the Dubuque Fighting Saints to the Clark Cup Finals. He had 36 points (7G-29A) in the regular season and 12 points (5G-7A) in the Clark Cup Playoffs.

Ford represented the US at the World Junior A Challenge (2015-16) where he captained Team USA to a Bronze Medal and was named to the tournament's all-star team.

Ford had 17 points for the Fighting Saints in 2014-15 after starting the season as a freshman at the University of Wisconsin. He appeared in 12 games for the Badgers.

Ford played 43 regular season games and eight playoff games as the Fighting Saints won the 2013 Clark Cup. His father Pat played hockey at Wisconsin and his brother Jason is currently on the Badgers roster.

Cooper Watson • Appleton, Wis. • Vernon Vipers (BCHL)
Watson is a 6-foot-3, 174-pound native of Appleton, Wisconsin. He played 2016-17 in the BCHL with the Vernon Vipers, appearing in 45 regular season games (19 points) and 12 playoff games (2 goals).

Prior to the Vipers, Watson played two and half seasons in the USHL. He played over 111 games for the Madison Capitals in 2014-15 and 2015-16 and 23 games for the Waterloo Black Hawks.

Watson played over four seasons for Appleton United and two seasons for Team Wisconsin before starting his junior career. He is the younger brother of Cliff Watson, Tech's captain over the past two seasons.
