Ian Malcolmson started out by being a known player in southeastern Wisconsin. By his sophomore season, he was a hot commodity across the Badger State, from the St. Croix to Lake Michigan.
Today, he is known nationwide.
The soft-spoken superstar was named to the American Family Insurance All-USA boys hockey first team, as named by the editorial staff of USA Today High School Sports.
Malcolmson led his Waukesha Wings to a runner-up finish in this year's state tourney, dropping a 2-1 heartbreaker to Hudson last month.
The lightning-quick forward scored 87 points (48g-39a) during the season and finished with a four-year high school total of 262 points (133g-129a). Even though he earned many individual honors, he was truly a team player.
Malcolmson was named the WHCA Player of the Year in his senior year, was awarded the Joe Pavelski Award as outstanding forward, earned All-State first team status and was first team All-Classic Eight.
But in reality, this quiet young man is much more than just a great hockey player; he is an even greater person and this writer wishes him the best of luck in whatever his future may hold.
