Senior defenseman leads Hudson to third state title

Thirty minutes after the awards ceremonies had ended, and all his Hudson Raider teammates were off the ice at the Alliant Energy Coliseum, Chase Blackmun was still on the ice in his familiar number five sweater, kneeling at center ice.

With just a handful of Coliseum workers and a few media personnel present, Blackmun looked around the rink one last time, and before he rose, planted a kiss on the face-off circle.

Then he stood up and skated off.

It was this kind of emotion and passion, not to mention talent, that helped Blackmun lead Hudson to their successful season, and the third state title in Hudson history Saturday afternoon.

And his performance in the three-day tournament led voters to name him as tournament MVP after the weekend's games had concluded.

The WHCA Player of the Year finalist finished the tournament with four points (1g-3a), which tied him for third in state tourney scoring. He scored a power play goal, had a game-winner and went +2.

He anchored a Hudson defense that held opponents to two goals in three games.
