Wildcats score three times in first seven minutes

VERONA — The top-seeded Verona boys hockey team came out firing Thursday night.

The Wildcats never stopped.

Verona unleashed a barrage of shots in the opening minutes, scoring three times in the first 7:10, and scored six goals in the first two periods in its WIAA regional final against eighth-seeded Waunakee at the Verona Ice Arena.

The early firepower carried the Big Eight Conference champion Wildcats to a 7-3 victory over the Badger North champion Warriors.

Verona advances to a sectional semifinal on Tuesday, facing Madison West.

Verona sophomore forward Mason McCormick scored two goals and added an assist, freshman forward Mack Keryluk scored the game’s first goal and contributed three assists and sophomore forward Brockton Baker had a goal and two assists.
