Raiders down NHM Rockets 3-1

The Hudson Raiders continue to roll through Wisconsin, getting ready for the playoffs and tournament by playing some of the top-ranked teams in the state. On Friday night the tour stopped at the Tri-County Ice Arena in Neenah for a contest with the top-seed in Section 5, the Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha Rockets. After the 3-1 win on Friday night, the Raiders move on to Green Bay to face Notre Dame Academy, the two-seed, on Saturday.

Cole Danielson got the scoring started early, just one minute into the first period, when he slapped in a rebound off a point shot by Jordan Halverson.

That would be all of the scoring in the first, as Rockets goalie Preston Long stopped the other seven shots taken by the Raiders in the period. Hudson’s Anthony Howard stopped the three shots fired on him.

The Rockets tied the game early in the second when Ethan Long deflected a point shot from Jack Krause. Howard stopped the shot, but  Long grabbed the rebound and put it around Howard.

Carter Maack put Hudson back on top to stay later in the second. Holding the puck in the right face-off circle, he looked toward the slot, and then snapped off a quick wrist shot that caught Long off-guard and beat the goalie between the leg pads.

Long added 12 saves in the second period, and Howard stopped 8.

Peyton Hanson iced the game with less than 3 minutes to play, taking a pass from Chase Blackmun in the slot and firing a shot just inside the pipe for a 3-1 Hudson lead.

Final saves on the night were 15 for Howard and 31 for Long.
