Blackhawks win eight straight prior to Rock County loss

The winning streak is over, but not before the Viroqua girls co-op hockey team had extended their victory run to eight games, with a pair of back-to-back wins over the Baraboo Lightning co-op last week.

The Blackhawks won their seventh game in a row with a 4-2 win at Baraboo, Tuesday, Jan. 31, and made it eight consecutive victories in a 6-1 romp over the Lightning at the Viroqua Community Arena, Friday, Feb. 3. The Baraboo co-op gathers student athletes from Mauston, Reedsburg, Sauk Prairie and Wisconsin Dells high schools, in addition to the host school.

The streak came to an abrupt halt, however, when the Blackhawks dropped a 6-1 decision, on the road, to a loaded Rock County Fury co-op team by a 5-1 score, Saturday, Feb. 4. The Fury is another one of the powerful girls co-op hockey programs, consisting of players from large districts including Beloit Memorial, Beloit Turner, Janesville Parker, Janesville Craig, Milton and Monroe. The Viroqua co-op, meanwhile, is made up of skaters from the host school, Cashton High School and Youth Initiative High School.
