Team raised over $500 for Vernon County Humane Shelter

On Tuesday, December 20, Viroqua High School's Girls Hockey team raised $550 and donations of several needed items for the Driftless - Vernon County Humane Society at their annual "Pack the Arena" night.

Traditionally, one home game each year is chosen to be an extra-fun "Pack the Arena" event to entice big crowds to come and see what an amazing sport women's hockey is. This year, the team decided to use this event to support the Vernon County Humane Society which, despite its name, receives no funding from the county. Since the beginning of the season, several of the players have been walking dogs, cuddling cats and volunteering in other ways for the Humane Society. They decided Pack the Arena night would provide a perfect opportunity to help their furry friends even more.

The community didn't let the girls, or the animals, down. They showed up with donations of pet food, dog and cat toys, and much needed cleaning supplies, for which they were granted free admission to the game against Sun Prairie co-op. Attendees were greeted in the arena lobby by Jake, Grasshopper, and Pebbles, three loveable dogs looking for new families. The dogs loved the fans and the fans loved them right back; petting and snuggling them, and filling the donation jars with cash.

A big thank you to all who attended in support of VHS Girls Hockey and the Driftless - Vernon County Humane Society!
