Brookfield's Hadley Malcolmson leads the way with 3 goals

First minute of each period was big

The Brookfield Glacier rolled into a foggy parking lot looking to play the Badger Lightning in Baraboo, Wisconsin.  It was the second annual Child Abuse Awareness game hosted by the Badger Lightning and both teams were looking to get a win as the season gets ready to enter the final 3 weeks of the regular season.

Brookfield opened the scoring 53 seconds into the game, when Casey Sandahl scored with an assist from Kayleigh Schmor.  The Glacier lead was bumped to 2 on an unassisted goal by Zoe Sternberg at 2:58 of the first period. Hadley Malcolmson boosted the lead to three, when she scored an unassisted goal at 9:08 of the period.  The Lightning kept battling, but were struggling to get the puck past Grace Elliot.  There was a scramble in front of the net and Elliot made a couple of saves, but the puck was unable to be frozen or cleared.  Paige Pawlak was able to slip the puck in with Baylee Babcock and Lizzie Patton assisting on the goal with 4:27 remaining in the first.  The period ended with Brookfield leading 3-1.

The Glacier's Malcolmson scored her second goal at 0:49 of the second period with Ellen Hill and Casey Sandahl assisting.  The first penalties of the game were called at 4:18 of the second as the Lightning's Sarah Christensen and Brookfield's Ellen Hill went to the sin bin for high-sticking.  The first power play opportunity came with 7:13 remaining in the period, when Brookfield's Zoe Sternberg was called for tripping.  The Glacier killed off the penalty.  The Lightning cut the lead to 2 at 11:58 of the second.  Sarah Christensen took the shot from approximately 4 feet inside the blue line to the right of Elliot.  Christensen kept the shot low on the ice and it found the back of the net.  Baylee Babcock and Lizzie Patton assisted on the goal.  Brookfield picked up their third penalty with 1:14 remaining in the period.  Yanna Glaspy was called for body checking and the Lightning went on the power play.  The power play didn't last long due to the Lightning's Emma Capener picking up a penalty for hooking with 20 seconds left in the second.

The opening minute of the period continued to be a nemesis for the Lightning.  Ten seconds after the Glacier penalty ended, Malcolmson picked up her third goal of the game putting Brookfield up 5-2.  Neither team was able to get past the goalies again.  Grace Elliot finished the game with 40 saves for Brookfield.  Gabby Christensen finished the game with 41 saves for the Lightning.
