Warriors control Panthers in decisive 7-2 win

STEVENS POINT - Wausau West senior center Nick Techel had a pretty strong feeling good things were going to happen the rest of the night during pregame warm-ups Thursday.

Even he would have been hard-pressed to predict the Warriors would turn their Wisconsin Valley Conference showdown with Stevens Point Area Senior High into a big win.

Techel scored just 32 seconds into the matchup of top three state-ranked teams and the rout was on.

West dominated from start to finish in a 7-2 blowout at K.B. Willett Arena behind a pair of goals and an assist from Techel in an outcome that wasn’t nearly as close as the score might indicate.

“We had a really good warm-up, I know all the guys were hyped up,” Techel said. “We have a long, ongoing rivalry with Point every single year. Every single game is a big game.
