Appleton United hosts Metro Lynx in Breast Cancer Awareness Game

Mayo Clinic Sports Game of the Week brings awareness for breast cancer

The most common cancer in women, no matter your race or ethnicity.

This Friday, January 6th, Appleton United (currently listed as Honorable Mention in the current WiPH top ten ranking) will host #9 Metro Lynx in the WiPH Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Game of the Week.  Appleton United had this slated as their "Breast Cancer Awareness" game.  The puck is scheduled to drop at 8:00 PM at the Appleton Family Ice Center.

The following information is taken from CDC - Breast Cancer Statistics:

Not counting some kinds of skin cancer, breast cancer in the United States is—

  • The most common cancer in women, no matter your race or ethnicity.
  • The most common cause of death from cancer among Hispanic women.
  • The second most common cause of death from cancer among white, black, and Asian/Pacific Islander women.
  • The third most common cause of death from cancer among American Indian/Alaska Native women.

In 2013 (the most recent year numbers are available)—

  • 230,815 women and 2,109 men in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer.*†
  • 40,860 women and 464 men in the United States died from breast cancer.*†
