The Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells varsity hockey team battled its way back from a 2-0 deficit to eventually tie the game, but then saw that hard work go to waste, as DeForest scored late in the game to pick up a 3-2 victory over the Cheavers in the opening round of the Monk’s Cheeseburger Classic in Lake Delton on Thursday night.
DeForest senior Hunter Walters scored the game-winner with 2 minutes, 50 seconds remaining. It was his second goal of the game, and gave the Norskies the one-goal victory.
The loss was a tough one to take, as it put RWD in the consolation side of the eight-team tournament. But even more devastating was the fact that the game doubled as a Badger North Conference contest, and RWD is now 1-2 in conference play, which means it likely will need to win out to have a shot at winning a conference title.
