Freshmen Lauren and Cameron Carmody big parts of ECA Stars' success

Twins begin journey at age five

Having Michigan roots and growing up in a family enthused by hockey, sticks and skates were always part of life for twin sisters Lauren and Cameron Carmody. When they were around the age of 5, they journeyed to Riverside Bike and Skate — a block away from a place they now call home in Hobbs Ice Center — to pick up their first pair of blades.

The rest, as they say, is history.

“We just fell in love with it and kept going,” Cameron Carmody said.

A decade later, they are a big part of a talented girls hockey team that has its sights set high. And they are just freshmen. 

Entering play tonight, they’ve combined for 14 points in seven games. Cameron has a goal and two assists, while Lauren has six goals and five assists. 

What makes them so tough, especially being first-year high school players, is their aggressive style of play. In their youths, the twins played in boys leagues, in which checking was allowed.
