CHIPPEWA FALLS — Chippewa Falls was ready.

The Cardinals, who came into play Tuesday with just one blemish on the year and a perfect conference record, had this one circled. And they outmuscled Eau Claire Memorial, the area program that has set the standard over the past decade for boys hockey, for their first win over the Old Abes since Nov. 29, 2012.

And a bunch of Memorial skaters had front row, penalty box seats to see the jubilation unfold.

Chippewa Falls took advantage of 13 Memorial penalties, scored three times on the power play and notched a signature 4-1 win over its Big Rivers rival in front of a packed Chippewa Area Ice Arena on Tuesday night.

“I’m just really proud of our team,” senior captain Jordan Steinmetz said. “Total team effort game.”
