Low scoring game goes down to the wire

The Rock County Fury and Cap City Cougars looked like they were gonna get into a real scoring spree game Tuesday night.

Both teams scored within the first three minutes of the game.

But it was the Cougars who got a second period goal from Zephyrn Jager who came away with the 2-1 Badger Conference win.

Fury Freshman Mya Maslonka kept up her fine early season start as less tha two minutes she scored for the first and only goal for Rock County.

The Cougars came back exactly one minute later and tied the game on a rebound put back by Carson Sheridan. The period ended a 1-1 tie with the shots a 7-5 edge for the Cougars.

The Second period saw both teams working to get some offense going but the only other goal came from Cougar skater Zephyrn Jager who was able to get a shot past Fury goal McKaylie Buescher for the 2-1 final score.

Late in the game the Fury had an offensive zone faceoff and called a timeout to set up a play. With under four seconds left they were unable to get the puck and the Cougars held on for the 2-1 win. The Cougar goalie Taylor Thornton ended the game with 14 saves, while Buescher for the Fury ended with 18 saves. The Cougars ply again this Saturday hosting the Fox Cities Stars, while Rock County goes on the road to play the Lakeshore Lightning.
