REEDSBURG — In a final tuneup before the Badger North Conference opener, the Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells varsity hockey team exploded for a 9-0 victory over the Stoughton Vikings in Reedsburg on Tuesday.

RWD was led by senior forward/defenseman Chris Jones, who put up a hat trick and totaled five points in the contest.

RWD head coach Neil Mattson said the effort was a side effect of a great, but ultimately unsuccessful effort in West Salem the previous weekend.

“We made them watch a ton of film,” said Mattson after the game. “We worked really hard at practice leading into the West Salem game. We knew it was going to be our toughest game. You know it was a 2-1 game with a minute, 30 left and we gave up an empty netter to lose 3-1, but I thought it was our best overall 51 minutes of hockey we’ve put together all season.”
