Warhawks off to 5-1 start this season

It took a 6-3 win over ranked University School Thursday, but with the victory, Arrowhead Coach Carl Valimont moved into a select circle: the 200 win club.

Carl returned as head coach at Arrowhead last year after previously leading the program from 2000-2010. This will be his 13th year at Arrowhead and he has enjoyed coaching kids in the Milwaukee area at all levels  following an 11-year pro career that ended in 1998.

In 2004-05 Carl lead Arrowhead to its first state tournament. They advanced to the state championship game and finished runner-up to Superior in overtime. That team was the first Milwaukee area school to play for a state title.

In 2008-09 he lead the Warhawks back to Madison and they ran away with the tournament and the program's first state championship.

His career coaching record coming into the season of 195-75-9 (.715) in Wisconsin high school hockey is among the all-time coaching leaders and in 2004-05 and 2008-09 he was named Sectional Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association (WHCA). He was also named the All-Area Coach of the Year in 2002-03, 2004-05 and 2008-09.

Coach Valimont started playing hockey at the age of four and went on to attend high school at Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut. From 1984-1988 he played for the University of Massachusetts - Lowell where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Marketing.

In the 1985 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the Vancouver Canucks with the 193th overall pick and played six seasons with the Milwaukee Admirals of the IHL. He joined the Houston Aeros in 1994 and played three seasons before concluding his career playing two years in the Deutch Eis Hockey League in Germany. Carl also played and coached with the Chicago Cheetahs of the Roller Hockey International Pro League for two seasons.

Congrats Coach Valimont and special thanks to Arrowhead Hockey for their information and pics.
