The 'Trasher Jinx' strikes again

Top Ten boys teams have a pedestrian .718 win percentage thus far

Go ahead, blame it on me.

Bergler does.

Through roughly two weeks worth of hockey here in the Badger State, the teams that were rated in the WiPH Top Ten (or Trasher's Top Ten, according to Bergler) won 28 games and lost 11. After consulting the handy-dandy calculator on my ancient Samsung S4, it spits out a winning percentage of .718.

Of the ten teams, only two (Hudson and SPASH) are undefeated.

What's going on here?

Disclaimer: the pre-season poll was not mine alone: it was tallied from votes of most (if not all) WiPH staffers, plus as many coaches that cared to submit their guesses for the 2016-17 season crapshoot.

So, are we just that dumb or would Pete Rozelle (the late Commissar of the No Fun League) be pleased as punch with the parity perpetrated on the puck public north and west of Pleasant Prairie?

In seven games between top-rated combatants, the higher ranked team came out victorious five times. That seems about right, but what about the other games with honorable mention or unranked teams?

Those games show a record of 18-7, or a .720 win percentage.

Why do the games between stud teams and games between the studs and unranked squads show a similar winning percentage?

To me, it seems like the higher ranked teams should be winning nine of ten games against lesser foes, or thereabouts.

The truth is, I don't know the answer, and I don't think anyone else does, either. This is more of an exercise of 'throwing it out there' for comments, or in Jeff Rochon's case, in-depth analysis. (Just giving you crap, Jeff, but I'm sure you will have an answer that is backed by stats.)

So feel free to comment. Rip on me, or offer your expertise. Either way, I wanna hear from you.

I hate to jinx anybody, but it looks like Madden has nothing on Trasher when it comes to Top Ten hockey teams in the Badger State!
