Seth Jaglinski scores highlight reel goal in win

Seth Jaglinski's highlight reel goal was the ultimate difference in D.C. Everest's 3-2 victory over the University School boys hockey team in a game played Friday evening at Greenheck Ice Arena on the D.C. Everest campus in Wausau.

The Evergreens were leading 2-0 when Jaglinski made his amazing play. While Everest was on a power play in the second period, the puck popped out of a scrum in the left corner of USM's zone.  It went to Jaglinski behind the the net.  He scooped the puck up off the ice.  Holding it above his waist on the blade of his stick, he stepped around the post and thrust the puck into the upper corner of the net like he was dolloping ice cream into a bowl. Time of the YouTube worthy play, 10:21.

The Evergreens took the lead by scoring the game's first goal just 6:37 into the game.  Ben Weller intercepted a regroup pass just outside the USM zone.  He skated into the USM slot and whipped a shot past USM's starting goaltender, Gordy Leech.

D.C. Everest took a two-goal lead a few minutes later as they were ending a power play. Defenseman Mike Sackmann stopped a USM clearing shot at the Wildcats' blue line.  He passed down the right boards to Ty Treter.  Tretter skated through the circle, then below the goal line.  He then moved the puck to the low slot to Weller who swiftly knocked it past Leech at 11:18.

The Wildcats moved closer with two quick goals at the start of the third period.  The first USM goal came in the period's opening minute.Taking a face off in the left corner of the Evergreens' end, Logan Geisness pulled the puck behind him. Andrew Malek moved off the boards, snatched the puck, and skated into the slot.  His shot beat D.C. Everest's goalie, Michael Janke, at 0:32.

The Wildcats made it 3-2 less than a minute later.  Skating out of the USM zone, Geisness moved into the Evergreens' end and proceeded into the left corner. He then passed the puck out to defenseman Kylar Fenton who was cruising into the play like a yacht through breakwater.  Fenton's  shot rebounded off Janke to USM's Nick Epperson in the slot.  Epperson gunned it past Janke at 1:18.

The Wildcats tried hard, but Janke and his D.C. Everest cohorts stood firm, prevented further goals, and secured their second victory in three early season games.

USM is now 2-1.  The Wildcats remain in Wausau for another challenging test.  They take on Wausau West, the state's top-ranked team, at 2:30 p.m. at the Marathon Park Ice Arena.
