Thursdays ot effort leaves no energy for Fury in loss to the Storm

After a overtime game against the Metro Lynx on Thursday, the Rock County Fury had the number one team in the state on the schedule Friday night in Janesville.

Thursday night's 3-3 tie left the Fury with no legs and set the table for a 9-0 Storm win.

"I had some of the girls saying they had no legs for tonight after last night's game," said Fury Head Coach Dave Soddy. "We came in with the focus we were gonna play them as hard as we could."

The Storm jumped out a few minutes in on a goal by Sami Brown, who got the puck off a faceoff win and got it past Fury goalie McKaylie Buescher for the opening goal. The Storm was not done as over a minute later they got an unassisted goal by Maggie Plaza on a shot from the right side on a hard angle. The Storm led 2-0 after the first period outshooting the Fury 11-3.

The second period saw the Storm take total control over the Fury when they scored five goals to blow the game open. Katelynn Schilling had two goals and an assist in the period. Emelia Edmondson also had two goals and Katelyn Ramthun added a single tally. Shots were 25-6 after two periods.

The Fury came out with some energy in the third period but were really never in sync with their passing. The Storm tacked up the final two goals with Brown scoring again and Macey Stepan finishing off the final score of 9-0.

"Their passing was there and their depth showed," said Soddy.

"The main focus in the game was to keep our heads up and keep moving forward," said captain Maggie Henschler. "They were a little ahead of us with our tired legs and it showed."

Shots in the game were 38-8.
