Superior downs Notre Dame Academy in Consolation Game

Eau Claire Memorial got goals from five different skaters and Trevor Hudecek stopped 29 of 30 shots as the Old Abes downed Notre Dame Academy 5-1 in the opening game of the Red Flint Rock and Stone Meltdown tournament in Eau Claire.

The Wausau West Warriors made short work of the Superior Spartans in the second game on Friday, coming away with a 7-1 victory.

Taylor Burger lead the way for Superior with a first period hattrick en route to a 6-3 win over the Notre Dame Academy Titans in the consolation game on Saturday.

Burger opened the scoring with a power play goal, firing a one-timer off a cross-ice pass from Tyler Nelson. His second came on a rebound shot after Nelson and Max Plunkett had been stopped by freshman NDA goalie Bo Buckley. Burger chased Buckley from the game with his third goal, another rebound following shots by Nelson and Plunkett.

Jason Revolinsky replaced Buckley in goal for the Tritons and kept NDA close as the teams traded goals in the second and third periods. But Notre Dame was never able to get closer than two goals to the Spartans, and Superior came away with a 6-3 win.
