Pre-Season POTW: Brad Navin, F, Waupaca

To say Waupaca forward Brad Navin is a beast of a hockey player is an understatement.  Navin is already two time All State Team member and he enters his senior season for the Comets as Team Wisconsin's leading scorer in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League.

The 6'2” senior can do everything on the ice, and has earned Wisconsin Prep Hockey's Pre-Season Player of the Week. From Sept. 11 through Oct. 31 Navin has played 24 games with Team Wisconsin, and has compiled a ridiculous 30 points (20 goals, 10 assists).

“Having Brad around obviously inspires the other players,” said Waupaca coach Randy Flesch. “Brad often acts as another coach. He helps correct players in a positive manner.  Many of the players pit themselves against him in one on one drills, they know if Brad can’t get a shot off then it is most likely they will dominate their position at game time.”

Flesch also pointed out that playing for Team Wisconsin keeps Navin fresh and focused when entering the high school season.  Also of note is the fact that Brad has already committed to the University of Wisconsin Badgers.

“[The UW] commitment has not changed anything,” Flesch said. “If anything I think it has taken some weight off his shoulders and will allow him to play without the stress of having to secure a college.”

When asked what sets Brad apart from your average prep hockey player, Flesh had this to say, “Many things set Brad apart from an average player, his size, his ability to read a play (hockey sense), his shot and release of his shot (D1 caliber already), and most of all he works hard(he stays after practice and we have a few kids work hard after practice and he stays longer than any of those).”

Watch Out for Navin and the Comets

Trasher has further coverage of Navin and the Comets here.

It's Official: Navin Commits to Badgers

UWBadgers.com & The Appleton Post Crescent both have articles about Navin's commitment to the UW Badgers.

Other Nominees

We only had one other nominee for Pre-Season Player of the Week, and that was Simon Leahy of the University School of Milwaukee.

Leahy was our 2010 State Tournament player of the week and Team Wisconsin's 2nd leading scorer.
