The TW Seniors on Sunday wanted to end the Minnesota NIT on a positive note
The Michigan Seniors wanted also that same ending.
After 58 minutes it came down to the goalies who both played great on this day.
But TW was the team that felt victory on this day after a 2-1 win in a shootout.
Caylen Dyni scored in Round 3 of the shootout to give TW Seniors a 2-2 record for the 4 day tournament.
But some wondered if we would get to that point.
The two teams played thru a scoreless first period which saw TW lead in shots 11-5.
Finally the ice was broken late in the second period by the two teams when Ian Melrose deflected a shot past TW goalie Tommy Mohs into the top corner to give Michigan a 1-0 lead thru 2 periods.
TW worked hard in the third period for the tying goal and some started wondering if it would happen as Michigan Senior goalie Cullen Barber had a shutout going with less than 2 minutes left.
Then TW forward Alex Nagel was able to get the puck in the offensive zone and got a very good wrist shot off and beat Barber for the 1-1 tie with 1:36 left.
Neither team could finish off the other in regulation or the 5:00 overtime.
So TW went to the shootout. Alex Nagel up first and he was able to show his skills and scored.
Michigan scored in the second round for a tie at one.
Michigan being the home team was shooting first and couldn't get the puck past Tommy Mohs whch set the table for Caylen Dyni.
Dyni went and shot the puck and Barber got a piece of it but not enough as it slowly slid into the net and TW secured the win on the final day to get that 2-1-1 record for a succesful showing at the Minnesota NIT.
Great Job Guys
