Shots are 83-3 in blowout win; Minnesota teams await

If it seems like Michigan senior goalie Olivia Portillo earned a lot of face time from the WiPH camera, it is because the majority of the action had her dead center in the frame.

That's what happens when a team fires 83 shots at the opposing goalie; nothing else matters.

So it went in a 12-0 romp over the ladies from the Yooper State Friday afternoon in the CCM NIT at Braemar Ice Arena in Edina.

TW had to deal with some bad news prior to the game when starting goalie Erin Connolly injured her ankle in pre-game off-ice workouts and had to be scratched from the lineup.

No matter, Michigan was only able to muster three shots all game on Lauren Tremblay, who swatted those away like pesky mosquitoes.

TW skated to a 3-0 lead after one period on goals by Amber Heidenreich and McKenna Ellena, who had two.

The girls stretched their lead to a touchdown with four second period goals.

Scoring in the middle period were Katelyn Ramthun, Samantha Young, Emily Bauer, and Nicole Unsworth.

Third period goals were tallied by Ramthun, Unsworth, Emma Peterson, Amanda Sergent, and Morgan Zirbel.

Heidenreich added a pair of assists, while Jane Ann Drill, Taylor Treu, Peterson, Emily Bauer, Elizabeth Bauer, Ramthun, Unsworth, Young, and Ellena all had one helper each.

Heck, things were going so good that Katie Detert got an assist. And she wasn't even at the rink.

Shots by period were: 20, 31, 32, respectively.

Portillo is a three-time first-team All-State goalie in Michigan and without her, the score could have been at least 20.

Next up for TW: Minnesota U18 at 10:00am Saturday, and then the Minnesota Seniors at 5:50pm.

The warm-ups are over and the real test is upon TW.

Ladies, how badly do you want it?
