STEVENS POINT - It was during a math class at Stevens Point Area Senior High that the three friends — Treyton Zinda, Jeremy Bergman and Spencer Tyson — had the idea of asking someone famous to the prom.
A hockey player himself, Zinda looked to the University of Wisconsin-Madison women's hockey team, asking Sophia Shaver, a freshman forward from Wayzata, Minn., to go to prom with him if he received 200 retweets of his request on Twitter. Shaver agreed, and another player — freshman defensewoman Mikaela Gardner from Plainfield, Ill.— indicated that she and a third player, redshirt junior forward Mikayla Johnson from Madison, would also attend if Zinda got 500 retweets.
