Fusion star named to USA Today second team

The season didn't end the way Maddie Rowe wanted it to, but she earned several honors that would help ease the pain.

St. Croix Valley Fusion came up a little short, losing to eventual state champ Hayward in the Sectional 1 final by a tally of 4-3.

What did Rowe end up with?

She was named to the GWHCA All-State first team and also collected the Molly Engstrom Award for the state's top female high school defender.

And yesterday, she earned a national honor, as she was named to the USA Today's Girls Hockey second team.

Oh, one more minor addition: next fall she will be attending the University of Wisconsin and will join the Badgers ladies' team.

All-in-all, Rowe had a pretty nice high school career, notching 218 points (109g-109a) in 108 games in her four years for the Fusion.

The Badgers' Katy Harding will be graduated, so Rowe might be wearing her familiar number eight as she takes the ice for the UW next fall.
