All three teams suffer close losses on Sunday

TIER I U16 BOYS
Team Wisconsin U16 scored twice in the middle period to take a 2-0 lead but couldn't hold off the Colorado Thunderbirds, who scored once in that period to cut the lead in half and then scored a pair of goals late in the final period to hand TW a 3-2 loss in the USA Nationals quarterfinal round.

Brock Caufield and Justin Engelkes both scored in the middle of the second for the two-goal lead only to see the T-Birds battle back for the win.

TW held a slight 21-20 shot edge in the contest, with goalie Sam Dunn making 17 saves.


TIER I U14 GIRLS
Team Wisconsin U14 dropped a 4-2 decision to the Bay State Breakers Sunday morning in the USA Nationals quarterfinal round.

Trailing 1-0 midway through the second, TW took the lead on goals by Jenna Ruiz and Annika Horman in a span of 45 seconds to make it 2-1, TW.

But the Breakers tied the game three minutes later and scored twice in the final period to account for the 4-2 tally.

Ava Bailey played in net for TW, but as of this writing, saves were not listed on the USA hockey site.


TIER I U16 GIRLS
The Madison Capitols U16 squad dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss to the Minnesota Elite Sky Sunday morning in the USA Nationals quarterfinals.

The Caps held a 2-1 lead early in the third period on goals by Hailey Redders and Maddie Posick, only to have the Sky tie the game 26 seconds after Posick's score.

The Sky took the lead on a goal with 2:36 left, but Brittyn Fleming scored with 33 seconds left to knot the game at three apiece, sending it to an extra period.

Taylor Heise scored midway through the OT period to give the Minnesota team the victory.

Sara Glawe made 33 saves for the Caps, who were outshot by a 37-20 margin.
