Ross scores twice in ECM victory

Trailing 1-0 after one period, the Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes scored three times in the middle period and twice in the third to take a 5-1 victory over the Antigo Red Robins in game one of Quarterfinal Thursday.

The Robins scored first, just over two minutes into the period courtesy of an ECM penalty.

Gavin Bunnell scored from the low left circle, with assists from Andrew Turunen and Arin VerHagen, to take an early one-goal lead.

Antigo had a couple chances late in the period to extend its lead, but Ben Jansen just missed wide left from close in and Turunen's shot on a semi-breakaway was wide left.

The period ended 1-0, with Ben Bartletti stopping 13 shots for Antigo and Trevor Hudecek making five saves for ECM.

The Old Abes tied the game less than three minutes into the second.

Andrew Emberson's shot from the right point was tipped by Dawson Schwengler from the low right side, evading the Antigo goalie to make it 1-1. Josh Berg also had a helper on the play.

ECM scored twice in a span of 48 seconds in the middle of the period to take a two-goal lead.

First, Dylan Ross punched in a rebound from the right side and then Sam Hanson followed less than a minute later with a shot from the left side that nicked off the left post and past Bartletti. Jacob Hudecek and Tom Berg had assists on the two goals.

Antigo took a time-out to stop the bleeding and did so, as the period ended with a 3-1 ECM lead. Bartletti had eight saves while Hudecek stopped five.

Hudecek had a great save six minutes into the final period, using his blocker to thwart a VerHagen rebound attempt from ten feet out.

Ross made it 4-1 midway through the period just as an ECM penalty expired.
