Experience and seniors key to win

The Middleton Cardinals came into Janesville for the Big Eight opener against the Janesville Bluebirds with 4 games already played while Janesville was playing their first game of the season.

   And it showed.

Middleton got 5 different goal scorers and with a roster of 11 seniors emerged a 7-1 winner and remained undefeated on the season.

Middleton got on the board first when Keaton Shaw scored . The shot of Alex Nisbit had a save made on it and the rebound came out to Shaw who got a shot off from the high slot and the puck went past Janesville goalie Jack Bostedt who was screened by his own player.

With under a minute to go in the first Middleton doubled the score when a loose puck was tapped in by Casey Harper. Janesville disputed the goal saying the puck was froze but the referee let it stand and Middleton was up 2-0 after the first period.

Janesville came out in the second period with determination and got on the board when Baily Aegerter finished an odd man rush with Ty Perkins for a 2-1 deficit. Middleton continued to work hard though and got their two goal lead back when Jordan Hylbert scored the first of his two goals then assisted on Casey Harpers second goal of the night late in the period to end the second period with a 4-1 lead. Shots after two periods were 14-7 Middleton.

The Cardinals wore the Bluebirds down in the third period. Jordan Hylbert was able to outmuscle the Janesville defense and got his second goal of the game. Middleton finished the scoring with goals by Jake Feldt and Griffin Gussel for the final 7-1 score.

Shots were 26-10 Middleton. Colin Butler had 4 assists in the win for the Cards. Middleton has outscored their opponents 29-8 thru the first 5 games of the season.
