Tanner Reany earns shutout in first varsity start

Due to an ankle injury to Tyler Werne, Wisconsin Rapids freshman goalie Tanner Reany made his first varsity start and made it a good one, stopping all 14 shots fired at him in a 5-0 victory over visiting Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells Tuesday evening at the South Wood County Rec Center.

The Red Raiders scored a trio of goals in the opening period and skated off after 17 minutes with a 3-0 lead.

Logan Conkey led off the scoring with a shot from the left circle that beat RWD goalie Dylan Stein high on the glove side to give the home squad a 1-0 lead with just over three minutes into the contest. Stevie Hanzlik and Tanner Case earned helpers on the play.

Three minutes later, Isaac Gilbert scored from the top of the right circle to give Rapids a 2-0 lead. Colton Flammini and Erik Prochnow were given assists on the play.

Cody Kohls made it 3-0 on a power play goal on a nice pass from Conkey, converting from the low left circle. Jacob Morman also had an assist on the play.

Shots were 10-1 in favor of Rapids in the opening stanza.

The second period was scoreless, made a little more exciting when Rapids killed off two minutes of 5-on-3 hockey. RWD held a slight 10-9 shot edge in the period.

Nick Campbell scored from the low left circle just over four minutes into the final period, with assists from Prochnow and Flammini to make it 4-0.

Jared Sawyer finished off the scoring with just under eight minutes left in the contest. Tyler Blaes and Jesse Gallager were credited with assists on the scoring play.

Rapids outshot RWD 12-3 in the period.

Reany stopped 14 shots for the win, while Stein made 26 saves for RWD.
