Jana Wimmer moving with husband to North Carolina

WAUSAU - Brady Mesenberg and Jana Wimmer, two prominent high school coaches in the Wausau area, both announced their resignations within days of each other in the past week.

Wimmer has coached the Central Wisconsin Storm — the co-op girls hockey program between Wausau West, Wausau East, D.C. Everest and Mosinee — for the past three years. She is moving to Charlotte, N.C, as her husband, Chris, is going to be the crew chief for Harrison Burton, the 14-year-old son of former Sprint Cup driver Jeff Burton. Harrison races Super Late Models.

Wimmer also served three years as an assistant with the hockey team. The Storm fell to Hayward in a WIAA state semifinal matchup this past winter.

“I had a chance to be part of the program for six years and I care about the girls, they are like family to me,” Wimmer said. “Of all the decisions we were making (to move to North Carolina), hockey was one of the toughest. Chris knew he was asking me to give up a lot, but it was an opportunity he could not turn down. It’s really hard to leave, and I’m going to miss hockey, I’m going to miss coaching and I’m going to miss the girls.”
