Team Wisconsin scores three final period goals in 6-2 win

The Team Wisconsin girls cruised to their second victory of the CCM NIT as they defeated Minnesota U18 6-2 Friday evening in Edina.

Minnesota had a 1-0 lead in the middle of the first but that would last just over three minutes.

With TW on the penalty kill, Maddie Rowe (St. Croix Valley) grabbed the puck and scored a shortie at the 13:54 mark to tie the game at one, and that is how the period ended. Shots were 9-8 in favor of TW in the period.

The second period was all Team Wisconsin.

Kelly Knetter (Central Wisconsin) scored three minutes into the middle period to give the TW Girls a lead they would not relinquish. USM's Nicole Unsworth and Sloan Sullivan earned helpers on the play.

Ten minutes later, Sullivan scored a power play goal to make it 3-1, with help from Knetter and Lauren Smith (Northern Edge).

Shots were 18-10, TW.

Stephanie Keryluk (Madison Capitols) scored almost eleven minutes into the last period to make it 4-1, with an assist to Amber Heidenreich (Hayward/Spooner).

A Minnesota goal made it 4-2, but 50 seconds later Knetter tallied to make it 5-2, and then Keryluk ended the scoring with 46 seconds left, assisted by Courtney Wittig (Bay Area). Shots were 14-7 in the final period, in favor of TW.

Kenzie Torpy (Icebergs) stopped 23 shots for Team Wisconsin, while the MN duo of Amy Jost (14) and Lauren Bench (21) combined for 35 saves.

Shots were 41-25, advantage T-Dub.
