Finish 2-2 in National tournament

The USA Hockey Nationals are taking place this week at the Cornerstone Community Center in Green Bay (or depending on who you talk to, it is located in DePere or Ashwaubenon).

A handful of games will be contested at DePere Ice Arena and Appleton Family Ice Center.

As the host, all three Team Wisconsin girls squads are participating in the tournament.

The teams have performed well, with a combined mark of 3-3 after two days of pool play.

The final day of pool play is Saturday, and that will determine which teams will be playing on Sunday and which ones will be going home or watching from the bleachers.

The championship battles will take place at Cornerstone on Monday.

The U14 team was victorious in its first two games, winning by a combined score of 14-1.

On Thursday, they defeated the Dallas Stars 10-1 to open the tournament. Hannah Neudorfer had two goals, Laken Anderson scored twice and had an assist, both Mia Dunning and Abigail Stow had a goal and two assists, and Lauryn Hull earned a playmaker with her three helpers.

Friday saw TW down Little Caesars 4-0. Margaret Thousand, Sydney Hendricks, Addie Young, and Neudorfer all scored a goal.

TW lost 5-2 to the Mid Fairfield (CT) Stars Saturday afternoon and fell to seventh in the 'wildcard' standings in the U14 bracket.

The score was tied at two with four minutes left in the middle period, only to see the Stars forge ahead 3-2 to end the period. The Stars scored a pair of goals in a three-minute span in the third to account for the final score.

Update:
The U16s edged Little Caesars 2-0 Saturday afternoon behind goals by Kylee Dyni and Nicole Unsworth. Erin Connolly got the shutout with her 33-save performance.

TW needed to win by six goals to win the tiebreaker with the California Wave and Little Caesars to advance to the quarterfinal round, but fell four goals short. All three squads finished with three points in pool play.

TW U16 hasn't fared as well as their younger counterparts, losing each of their first two contests.

On Thursday, TW dropped a heartbreaker to the California Wave, 1-0.

Friday's game was a 6-1 loss to SSM, in which Ally Fox scored the lone goal.

(The USA Hockey website seems to have the shots/saves flip-flopped, but until I hear for sure, I am not going to comment on saves.)

It was reported that Connolly stopped 60 shots in her two games.

The following day, they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Chicago Mission, with Rachel Pawlak supplying the lone tally.

The Madison Capitols defeated TW 4-1 Saturday morning, as TW finished third in their pool, one spot 'out of the money.'
