Sullivan, Unsworth pace USM past Onalaska

Pair combines for nine points in 6-1 victory

University School got three goals and six assists from Sloan Sullivan and Nicole Unsworth as they led the #1 ranked Wildcats past Onalaska 6-2 in semi-final action on Friday at the Alliant Energy Center.

The Wildcats got on the board early with a pair of goals in the first five minutes to take a lead they would never relinquish.

Unsworth scored first at 3:01 with her shot from the right dot that beat Onalaska goalie Skylar Dannhoff high on the glove side. Sullivan and Rose Revolinski earned assists on the power play goal.

Less than two minutes later, Sullivan scored from the high slot to make it 2-0, with helpers from Nina Andersen and Ellie Barney.

The Hilltoppers cut the lead in half on a great effort by Jacyn Reeves.

The senior defenseman got the puck in the NZ, skated down the left side and sent a shot from the low left circle that glanced off USM goalie Liz Ostermeyer's glove with just over five minutes left in the opening stanza.

USM held a 10-3 shot advantage in the period, leading 2-1.

Rachel Lowe made it 3-1 early in the second on her shot from the right circle that a screened Dannhoff never saw. Jessica Malloy earned a helper on the play.

Sullivan scored on the power play four minutes later when she walked in from the high slot and sent a shot through heavy traffic that beat the Ona goalie to increase the margin to 4-1. Unsworth and Revolinski earned assists on the play.

With just over a minute left in the period, Ellie Barney scored from the high slot to bump the lead to 5-1. Sullivan and Unsworth were given assists on the score.

Shots were 24-4 in the period, USM.

Caitlin McBride capped off the scoring for the Wildcats when she tapped in a rebound at the 4:47 mark, with assists to Unsworth and Sullivan.

Reeves scored her second goal with just over four minutes left on a near-carbon copy of her earlier goal, scoring from the left circle through the goalie five-hole.

Shots were 8-6 in favor of the Wildcats in the period.

Ostermeyer (11) and Taylor Yelton (2) combined for 13 USM saves, while Dannhoff (33) and Alli Christenson (3) made 36 stops for Onalaska.

University School (26-2) advances to tomorrow's title game against Hayward/Spooner, who beat Central Wisconsin 1-0 in today's second contest.

Onalaska ends the year with a mark of 16-7-3.
