Central Wisconsin will face Northland Pines for state trip

The Central Wisconsin Storm got three goals from Kelly Knetter and three helpers from Izzy Uhl-Chmiel Tuesday night as they skated past the Point-Rapids Red Panthers 5-0 in sectional semifinal action at Greenheck Fieldhouse.

The Storm got on the board first midway through the first period on a controversial goal.

As Elizabeth Bauer fired a shot from the bottom of the left circle, a Storm forward was in the crease leaning on goalie Emily Bubla as the shot ended up in the back of the net. The officials disagreed, much to the chagrin of the upset goalie. Jamie Henrickson got the assist.

Two minutes later, Knetter knocked an Uhl-Chmiel shot out of mid-air and zipped it into the net for a 2-0 lead.

The period ended with the home team holding a 15-3 shot margin.

Knetter made it 3-0 when she walked in from the left corner and beat Bubla high on the blocker side at 7:46 of the second, with an assist to Uhl-Chmiel.

Bubla stopped 14 shots in the period as the shot edge was 15-2.

The Storm advanced the lead to 4-0 when Katelynn Schilling scored on a 2-on-0 breakaway after a steal at the blue line. Henrickson and Bauer earned assists.

A little over a minute later, Knetter slid the puck past the outstretched right leg pad of the goalie during a scrum in front of the net. Uhl-Chmiel earned her playmaker, while Erin Gruber also notched an assist on the final score of the contest.

Renee Hosler had nine saves for the shutout, while Bubla valiantly stopped 38 shots in her final high school contest.

The Storm (18-6-1) move to the Sectional 2 final Saturday afternoon at Greenheck against Northland Pines, a 5-2 winner over the Northern Edge tonight.

The Red Panthers end their season at 7-14-3.
