Sam Radenz scored late in OT to claim the win for the Warriors

The Wausau West Warriors out-shot the Fond du Lac Cardinals 39-17 but had to go overtime to come out with a 4-3 win at the Showdown in Titletown Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals got on the board first with a power play goal. Jack Nejedlo got the puck at the bottom of the left circle. Anticipating a sharp-angle shot by Nejedlo, West goalie Quinn Coyle dropped down, but Nejedlo passed across to Caylen Dyni at the right face off dot. Dyni scored in the wide open net.

Cardinals goalie William Shober stopped all 11 shots put on him in the first, while Coyle stopped four.

Two quick goals in the middle of the second period put the Warriors up 2-1.

Cale Bowman skated up the left side all alone on Shober. Bowman got Shober to drop as he cut to his right at the top of the crease  and  tucked the puck into the net. Alex Osness scored a minute later when West worked the puck in to the net from the left corner.

Nejedlo scored the equalizer for Fondy while skating at 4 on 4. He put a hard wrist shot through a traffic jam in front of Coyle at 15:03.

West out-shot the Cardinals 17-5 in the second, but the score was tied at two each when the horn sounded.

The game remained tight as each team scored once in the third period.

Kellen Tharaldson put West back on top 3-2 with a power play goal from the left point at 4:01. Noah Wilson tied it up for Fondy with a shot from the left face off circle that was partially blocked by a West defenseman and went in over Coyle's shoulder with 1:28 to go.

Shots were down as the defenses tightened in that period. Coyle stopped 5, while Shober made 3 saves.

Sam Radenz took a backhand one-timer from the slot off a pass by Hunter Ricklefs with 2:40 to go in overtime for the game-winner for West.
