Northern Edge Slips Past Onalaska

The Wisconsin Prep Hockey girl’s game of the week featured #5 Onalaska vs #8 Northern Edge.  Northern Edge’s Katie Detert entered the game in the top ten in girls scoring and points.  Jacyn Reeves did not play in the game.

The first goal of the game was scored by North Northern edges Katie Detert as she stole outlet pass from Onalaska in the Onalaska’s defense of zone skated in went top shelf over the left shoulder of Dannhoff.  Goal was scored at 5:39 of the first period.  Onalaska’s goal scored by number 23 Kyla Bantle assisted by number nine Sarah Boswell Boswell had a centering pass from behind the net to panel at the top of the crease Bantle went put the puck into the net to tie the game at one at the 12:39 mark of the first period.  Saves for the Northern Edge’s Shea Peterson had four saves and Onalaska’s Danhoff had eight saves.

Onalaska took their only lead in the game at 10:49 of the second period, Emma Tryggestad converted a power play opportunity with Chazlyn Anderson and Mackenzie Steinfadt assisting on the goal.  Four seconds later Lauren Smith tied the game at 2 with Lindsey Steger and Katie Detert assisting.  Lindsey Steger put the Northern Edge ahead 3-2 at 11:56 of the second period with Kourtney Carrico and Katie Detert assisting.  Lauren Smith increased the Edge’s lead to two with an unassisted goal with 27.1 seconds remaining in the second period.  The period came to an end with Northern Edge leading Onalaska 4-2.

The third period found both teams moving the puck, but it wasn’t until there was only 2:04 remaining in the third period.  Onalaska’s Sara Buswell scored a shorthanded goal with Morgan Gargaro assisting on the play.  The Edge put the game away at 15:15 of the third on a goal by Katie Detert with Lauren Smith assisting on the goal.  The Edge won the game 5-3.

The Northern Edge are having a great season and are looking to challenge for the #1 seed in sectional two.  Onalaska is looking to claim the #1 seed in sectional three.  The seedings will be determined the weekend of February 7 & 8.
