After a breakfast prepared by the Northland Pines parents, the four teams participating in the Pines Classic Tournament headed back to the Dome today to play another matchup of games. Northland Pines and Hayward were slated to play at 12:00 in the Consolation game, while University School of Milwaukee and Mosinee faced off at 2:30 for the Championship title.

Pines bounced back from last night’s overtime loss against Mosinee to win 7-1 against Hayward. Bailey Ramesh scored the lone goal in the first period by putting the puck right into the corner of the net with an assist from Connor Cox.

The second period, however, was vastly different from the first. Pines came out strong and scored five goals in the seventeen minute time span, sending the game into running time before the period was even over.

Jake Jantzen poked the puck at Brendan Thomas but Bailey Ramesh got the rebound and put the puck past Thomas early on. Noah Wittkopf and Jack Brown each got goals with Nick Dean, Connor Cox, and  Ramesh each earning assists on the goals.

Ryon Ritzer and Bailey Ramesh teamed up for the fourth goal of the period, followed by Nick Dean stuffing the puck between the pipe and Thomas’s legs. Nick’s linemates Colton Raymond and Noah Wittkopf picked up assists on the play.

Ritzer fired the puck and another goal up on the board for his team in the first two minutes of the third period, this time with an assist from his own goaltender, Gabe Hartwig. Ethan Wolfe from Hayward came back and scored a goal against Hartwig, denying him of earning a shutout for the game. Pines won the game 7-1.

University School of Milwaukee and Mosinee were pretty evenly matched to start out the championship game but Logan Geisness scored an unassisted goal with exactly 7 minutes left on the clock for the first period. USM went on to score two goals in the next period, giving them a three goal lead going into the third period.

Brandon McGill shot on a breakaway but the puck hit the crossbar and bounced out near the end of the game. Hayden Brown launched the puck into the empty Mosinee net while his team was shorthanded, giving USM a 4-0 win.

University School of Milwuakee was crowned the overall champion of the game after defeating Mosinee 4-0, while Pines was the consolation champion after beating Hayward 7-1.
