Tomlinson, Ash combine for five goals and two assists

Visiting Waupaca came into tonight's contest with the Point-Rapids Red Panthers averaging 5.6 goals per game.

They stayed right on pace as they shut out the hosts 6-0 at the South Wood County Rec Center in Wisconsin Rapids.

About the only thing they didn't do was score on the power play, as the Red Panthers PK and goalie Emily Bubla held down the fort successfully for six minutes during man-advantage action.

A moral victory for sure, but on a night where little went right for the home team, at least it was something.

The first half of the first period was scoreless, but the guests picked up three goals in a six minute span late in the period to skate off to the locker room with a 3-0 first intermission lead.

Former Red Panther Brianne Huettner scored just about ten minutes in when she found an opening between Bubla's right arm and the post to make it 1-0, with Markie Ash and Mandy Tomlinson earning helpers on the play.

Tomlinson made it 2-0 when she jammed the puck home as she came from behind the net. Kylie Hiddemen got an assist on the play.

With just a minute left, Tomlinson scored off the face-off from the left of the goalie for an unassisted goal.

Shots were 13-4 in favor of the guests in the first.

Ash made it 4-0 just over two minutes into the middle period when she stole a puck in the NZ, skated in and wristed a shot into the upper expanses of the net for another unassisted goal.

That's how the period ended, with Waupaca holding a 15-6 shot edge in the stanza.

Bubla gave the home fans something to cheer about when she stoned Tomlinson with a nice right pad save on a Waupaca breakaway with just under ten minutes remaining in the final period, but that would be about it for happiness on the Red Panthers side.

WiPH Game Summaries

Since 'turnabout is fair play,' Tomlinson repaid Bubla with yet another snipe off the face-off two minutes later to complete her hattie.

Ash closed out the scoring and put the game into run-time with exactly one minute left with her 'walk-in' goal from the left side, with Hiddemen earning her second assist of the game.

Shots were 14-5, advantage Waupaca, in the final seventeen minutes of play.

Waupaca goalie Cassie Rasmussen earned her second shutout of the year with a 15 save performance.

Bubla stopped 36 pucks for Point-Rapids, who dropped to 3-9-2 on the year.

Waupaca--ranked sixth in the state--improved to 16-1.
