Lasers hockey team stays on a roll

KMMO wins eighth straight by downing first-place USM

When the pressure was on last Friday at the Naga-Waukee Ice Arena, the Kettle Moraine/Mukwonago/Oconomowoc boys hockey team played like champions.

Faced with adversity for the first time all night when No. 5-ranked University School of Milwaukee tied the game at 1-1 with 14:03 left to play, the 10th-ranked Lasers scored the final two goals of the game in the last 8:36 to post an impressive 3-1 victory over the talented Wildcats.

The game-winning goal came with 8:36 to play when Nick Bateson scored on a redirected shot after Justin Persch fired a slap shot at the USM goal. Bateson picked up the shot in front of the goal and beat the University School goalie for a 2-1 lead. That score came on the power play.
