USM Wildcats Travel to Sun Prairie to Play the Cougars

Match-up of #2 Wildcats vs #4 Cougars

Sun Prairie was the back drop for a game between two of the top four teams in the state of Wisconsin.  The #2 Wildcats made the trip from Milwaukee to Sun Prairie to play the #4 Cougars.

The Cougars faced adversity early in the game, when Jada Ward was called for checking at 3:47 of the opening period.  Sun Prairie kept University School of Milwaukee from capitalizing on the power play. The scoring was started off with the Wildcats Nicole Unsworth opening the scoring at 6:17 of the first period with assists being awarded to Caitlin McBride and Jessica Malloy.  Unsworth increased the lead to two with Hannah Koniar and Sloan Sullivan assisting on the goal at 8:18 of the period.  The Wildcats' Sloan Sullivan was called for interference with 13.9 seconds left on the clock in the first.  Dan Deltgen finished the period with 13 saves for the Cougars, while Liz Ostermeyer had 3 saves for USM.

The Cougars were on the power play to start the second, but could not get many shots off on Ostermeyer.  Nina Andersen increased the Wildcats lead to 3 at 5:57 of the second with Rose Revolinski and Ellie Barney assisting.  Revolinski made a trip to the sin bin for holding at 10:41 of the second.  The Wildcats killed off the penalty.  The Wildcats increased the lead to 4 on a goal by Caitlin McBride with an assist from Nicole Unsworth with 1:46 left in the second.  Deltgen collected another 13 saves and Ostermeyer had 5 saves.

The third period saw both teams getting shots on the opposing goalies, but they were staying up to the task.  Annika Johnson was called for tripping with 5:39 remaining in regulation.  The Wildcats' Nina Anderson scored a power play goal with McBride and Rachel Hoge assisting at 12:53 of the third.  Deltgen had 19 saves in the third for a game total of 45.  Ostermeyer had 9 saves for a game total of 17.

USM wins the game 5-0.
